Universal Audio Drops Native Voice Of God: Massive Low End Without the Hardware

Universal Audio Little Labs Voice of God

Universal Audio has officially released a native version of the Little Labs Voice Of God bass resonance processor, meaning producers can now use the plugin on Mac and Windows without needing any UA hardware.

Quick Take

  • The Little Labs Voice Of God plug-in is now available natively for any DAW.

  • The introductory price is $49, down from the standard $99 MSRP.

  • Current owners of the DSP version for Apollo interfaces are eligible for special upgrade pricing.

  • The processor is built to tune bass frequencies precisely for kicks, 808s, and vocals.

Universal Audio is continuing to expand its native plug-in catalog. The Little Labs Voice Of God is the latest tool to make the jump, dropping the requirement for Apollo interfaces.

It is available immediately for Mac and Windows. The VOG is known in the industry as a “secret weapon” for low-end management.

It functions as a targeted analog bass resonance tool. You can pinpoint a specific bass frequency and add weight or resonance.

This makes it highly effective for kick drums, 808s, and even adding vocal “heft” so they sound more authoritative.

Lev Perrey, VP of Product at Universal Audio, commented on the release. “We’re thrilled to bring this iconic analog processor to customers everywhere,” he stated.

“This plug-in is a favorite of Apollo customers, and now music creators everywhere can tune low end in their mixes with confidence”

The tool has strong backing from top mix engineers. Andrew Scheps noted that the plug-in “solves problems you didn’t know you had,” while DJ Jazzy Jeff described its effect on bass as “clean, tasteful, exactly what it needed”.

Drü Oliver also praised its ability to create a cinematic low-end bloom on sub bass and 808s.

My Take

If you have ever struggled to get a kick drum to sit right without washing out the whole mix, VOG is a lifesaver.

It is essentially a resonant filter on steroids. The fact that UA is finally letting go of the “hardware-only” requirement for their best tools is a huge win for everyone.

You no longer need to carry an Apollo around just to get that specific low-end punch.  At the $49 intro price, it is a no-brainer for anyone doing electronic or hip-hop production.
